The city of surprise is located in the southwest valley and is home to 111,908 residents. The town has an area of 69.5 square miles. The town seemed to grow overnight during the 2004-2006 housing boom. The town was incorporated in 1960 but had little growth until the late 1990's. Unlike many other cities this town prepared for the housing boom by good master planning along with the development of parks, parkways and numerous shopping centers. The town is the second fastest growing community in the the valley behind Gilbert. The town is known for spring training for the Kansas City royals and the Texas Ranger's baseball teams. The town is also known for Luke air force base which is the main base for F16 fighter training. They are also is home to the vast white tank mountain regional park. The prices of home begin well under 100,000 and go up so it is popular with first time home buyers and bargain hunters.
